Beef Kheema is an indian mince curry that is delicious with Naan. The meat we used is minced aged rump steak with the fat removed making it healthy and tender.
This dish if cooked without the addition of too much liquid could even be used as a pie filling.

Ingredients
500gm beef mince
1-2 Tbsp oil
1 big onion, chop fine
3 clove garlic, chop fine
1 Tbsp fresh ginger, chop fine
2 tsp chilli paste or powder
Spices
1 tsp tumeric powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp ground coriander
1-1½ cup water
2 big tomatoes, quartered
1 cup frozen peas
2½ tsp lemon juice
1 tsp salt
Method
1. Heat a wok with the oil and fry onions, garlic, ginger and chilli paste until onions is transparent.
2. Add the spices and beef mince. Fry until the mince is dryish.
3. Add tomatoes and water. Simmer until meat is tender.
4. Add peas, lemon juice and salt to taste. Boil gently until peas are cooked.
5. Serve with Naan or rice.
Note : Rump steak contains only 5.5g of fat per 100g, little more than 1 teaspoon. NZ grass-fed beef is very lean with hardly any fat between the muscles, making excess fat easy to trim and providing a very low-fat, high-iron protein. Quoted from NZ Healthy Food magazine November 2006.
Tip : You will be able to get a leaner and healthier mince if you buy a piece of steak and mince your own. Homemade mince will have far less liquid and fat oozing out as you cook it. Bought mince usually have a higher fat content.
